Estate & Legacy Giving

A gift from your estate is one of the most powerful ways to ensure that dignified care for elders and opportunity for youth and women continues long after your lifetime — leaving a living legacy that carries your values forward.

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now.

About legacy giving

What is a legacy gift?

A legacy gift — also called a planned gift or bequest — is a donation to AgeWatch Africa that you arrange today but which takes effect after your lifetime. It costs you nothing now and can be changed at any time.

Legacy gifts typically come through a will or trust, a life insurance beneficiary designation, or a retirement account. They can be a specific sum, a percentage of your estate, or particular assets such as property or stocks.

No gift is too small. A legacy gift of any size helps us plan ahead — expanding care services and building facilities that would not otherwise be possible from year-to-year donations alone.

Today

You include AgeWatch Africa in your will. No cost, fully revocable.

During your lifetime

You join our Legacy Circle — receiving annual updates on the programmes your gift will one day support.

After your lifetime

Your bequest funds elder care, youth and women cohorts, or infrastructure for years to come — your values outliving you.

"I give the sum of [AMOUNT] to AgeWatch Africa Foundation Limited (registration CLG-JLFG96), registered in Kenya, to be used for its general charitable purposes [or: for its [programme name] programme]. If the organisation has changed its name, this gift should pass to its successor."

Common questions

Legacy giving FAQ

Can I change my mind after including AgeWatch Africa in my will?

Yes, absolutely. A bequest is fully revocable at any time. You can update your will or estate plan whenever your circumstances change. We encourage people to review their estate plans every 3–5 years.

Does AgeWatch Africa need to know the amount?

No. Many legacy donors prefer to keep amounts private, and that is entirely fine. We simply ask that you notify us so we can plan responsibly and acknowledge your commitment.

Can I designate my gift to a specific programme?

Yes. You can designate to ElderCare (home care, day care, or residential care), AgeWatch Futures (youth and women digital skills, agribusiness, or VSLA), caregiver training, or county expansion. You can also leave it unrestricted and trust us to use it where it is most needed.

What happens if AgeWatch Africa ceases to exist?

We recommend including a clause directing your gift to a similar organisation if AgeWatch Africa ceases to operate. Our sample bequest language includes this protection. We are happy to suggest appropriate successor organisations in consultation with your solicitor.

Are legacy gifts tax-deductible?

This depends on your country of residence and its treaty arrangements with Kenya. In many jurisdictions, charitable bequests reduce the taxable value of your estate. We recommend consulting a qualified tax or estate planning adviser about your specific situation.
